<p>The <strong>Argentine economic crisis</strong> reflects very closely what is happening here in the United States of America which means we can use it&#8217;s lessons to predict what may happen here in the USA.</p>
<p>It was a financial situation that affected Argentina&#8217;s economy during the late 1990s and early 2000s. Macroeconomically speaking, the critical period started with the decrease of real GDP in 1999 and ended in 2002 with the return to GDP growth, but the origins of the collapse of Argentina&#8217;s economy, and their effects on the population, can be found in action before.</p>
<p>Argentina quickly lost the confidence of investors and the flight of money away from the country increased. In 2001, people fearing the worst began withdrawing large sums of money from their bank accounts, turning pesos into dollars and sending them abroad, causing a <strong>run on the banks</strong>. The government then enacted a set of measures (informally known as the <em><a title="Corralito" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corralito" target="_blank">corralito</a></em>) that effectively froze all bank accounts for twelve months, allowing for only minor sums of cash to be withdrawn.</p>
<p>Because of this allowance limit and the serious problems it caused in certain cases, many Argentines became enraged and took to the streets of important cities, especially Buenos Aires. They engaged in a form of popular protest that became known as <em><a title="Cacerolazo" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cacerolazo" target="_blank">cacerolazo</a></em> (banging pots and pans). These protests occurred especially in 2001 and 2002. At first the <em>cacerolazos</em> were simply noisy demonstrations, but soon they included property destruction, often directed at banks, foreign privatized companies, and especially big American and European companies. Many businesses installed metal barriers because windows and glass facades were being broken, and even fires being ignited at their doors. Billboards of such companies as Coca Cola and others were brought down by the masses of demonstrators.</p>
<p>Confrontations between the police and citizens became a common sight, and fires were also set on Buenos Aires avenues. Fernando de la Rúa declared a <strong>state of emergency</strong> but this only worsened the situation, precipitating the violent protests of 20 and 21 December 2001 in <a title="Plaza de Mayo" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plaza_de_Mayo" target="_blank">Plaza de Mayo</a>, where demonstrators clashed with the police, ended with several dead, and precipitated the fall of the government. De la Rúa eventually fled the <a title="Casa Rosada" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casa_Rosada" target="_blank">Casa Rosada</a> in a helicopter on 21 December.</p>

<p>Amid rioting, President <a title="Fernando de la Rua" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fernando_de_la_Rua" target="_blank">Fernando de la Rua</a> resigns, December 21, 2001.</p>
</div>
</div>
</div>
<p>Since De la Rúa&#8217;s vice president, <a title="Carlos Álvarez (vice-president)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlos_%C3%81lvarez_%28vice-president%29" target="_blank">Carlos Álvarez</a>, had resigned in October 2000, a political crisis ensued. Following presidential succession procedures established in the Constitution, the president of the Senate <a title="Ramón Puerta" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ram%C3%B3n_Puerta" target="_blank">Ramón Puerta</a> took office and the Legislative Assembly (a body formed by merging both chambers of the Congress) was convened. By law, the candidates were the members of the Senate plus the Governors of the Provinces; they finally appointed <a title="Adolfo Rodríguez Saá" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adolfo_Rodr%C3%ADguez_Sa%C3%A1" target="_blank">Adolfo Rodríguez Saá</a>, then governor of San Luis. During the last week of 2001, the interim government led by Rodríguez Saá, facing the impossibility of meeting debt payments, defaulted on the larger part of the public debt, totalling no less than $132 billion.</p>
<p>Politically, the most heated debate involved the time for the following elections—the spectrum ranged from March 2002 to October 2003 (the original date for the ending of De la Rúa&#8217;s office).</p>
<p>Rodríguez Saá&#8217;s economy team came up with a project designed to preserve the convertibility regime, dubbed the &#8220;Third Currency&#8221; Plan. It consisted of creating a new, non-convertible currency called <em>Argentino</em> coexisting with convertible pesos and U.S. dollars. It would only circulate as cash (checks, promissory notes or other instruments could be nominated in pesos or dollars but not in Argentinos) and would be partially guaranteed with federally-managed land—such features were expected to counterbalance inflationary tendencies.</p>
<p>Argentinos having legal currency status would be used to redeem all <a title="Complementary currency" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Complementary_currency" target="_blank">complementary currency</a> already in circulation—the acceptance of which as a means of payment was quite uneven. It was hoped that preservation of convertibility would restore public confidence, while the non-convertible nature of this currency would allow for a measure of fiscal flexibility (unthinkable with pesos) that could ameliorate the crippling recession of economy. Critics called this plan merely a &#8220;controlled devaluation&#8221;; its advocates countered that since controlling a devaluation is perhaps its thorniest issue, this criticism was a praise in disguise. The &#8220;Third Currency&#8221; plan had enthusiastic supporters among mainstream economists (the most notorious being perhaps <a title="Martín Redrado" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mart%C3%ADn_Redrado" target="_blank">Martín Redrado</a>, current president of the central bank) citing sound technical arguments. However, it could never be implemented because the Rodríguez Saá government lacked the political support required.</p>
<p>Rodríguez Saá, utterly incapable of dealing with the crisis and unsupported by his own party, resigned before the end of the year. The Legislative Assembly convened again, appointing Peronist <a title="Eduardo Duhalde" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eduardo_Duhalde" target="_blank">Eduardo Duhalde</a>—then a Senator for the Buenos Aires province—to take his place.</p>

<h2>TheAntiTerrorist on Corporate Revenue Collection</h2>
<div id="_mcePaste"><strong>Broadcast on 13 October 2008</strong></div>
<div id="_mcePaste">Hello friends, I am TheAntiTerrorist. Thank you once again for all your messages of support,</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">your emails and your questions. I have been learning and implementing and preparing my</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">family for what is to come. As you can see we’ve been talking about this for a year now and</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">it’s coming into play; the food crisis, the theatre that is the financial crisis, I hope you have</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">all been storing dried food and studying feverishly.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">This particular broadcast will leave you in no doubt as to who is running the show here. Or</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">at least who’s benefitting from running the show.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">Now if all you good police officers who have been contacting me over the last year are still</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">in any doubt whether you have been reduced to mere revenue collection agents for private</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">corporations, this episode will clear that up for you, too.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">[begin email excerpt graphics]</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">I get a lot of emails from disillusioned police officers. They’re beginning to see through the</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">veil. As you can see here there are certain quotes from emails I have received from certain</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">officers, and if you are the officers themselves watching this video, you will recognise your</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">own writings. Of course, I’ve not included your names, but I show these emails to prove to</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">others that there are good cops out there—there are good police officers out there who are</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">completely and utterly disillusioned about the job, and how the job has changed. I want to</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">make it clear I am not anti-police—we need the police because unfortunately there are</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">people out there who do not have the rest of society’s best interests at heart. There are</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">burglars out there, there are thieves and rapists and they need to be dealt with. We need men</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">and women out there selflessly protecting the public.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">You may well be out there dealing with us in the real world, dealing with the bad guys,</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">trying to make a difference, but the bottom line is, you are there to generate revenue for a</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">full-profit organisation</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">[end email excerpt graphics]</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">[Begin Dun &amp; Bradstreet graphics]</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">So how can I confidently assert that police officers are employees of private corporations</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">doing business on the international markets? Well, to find that information I would go to</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">somewhere like Dun &amp; Bradstreet.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">Dun &amp; Bradstreet touts itself as</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">“The worlds leading source of commercial information and insight on businesses, enabling</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">companies to decide with confidence for 167 years. Dun &amp; Bradstreet’s global commercial</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">database contains more than 130 million business records, providing our customers with</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">quality business information. This quality information is the foundation of our global</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">solutions that customers rely on to make critical business decisions&#8230;”</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">Allo, allo, allo, what’s going on ‘ere then? City of London Police, trading as City of London</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">Police. What is the overall condition of this business? Well above average.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">There will be a report like this for every police force in the western world, and you’ll find it</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">on Dun &amp; Bradstreet if you look hard enough. In some cases it will cost you an arm and a leg</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">to get these reports but they’re well worth having. And in some cases there will be</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">information missing with regards to profits, or directors, but here you can see the directors/</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">proprietors of City of London Police are Bernard Hartie (sp?) and William Taylor. They’re</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">executives. Of a company. Making money. Doing business on the international markets.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">And if any of you were in any doubt as to The Bank of England’s status, you can see she’s</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">trading as The Old Lady of Threadneedle Street. When did this business start? 1694.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">And here is a favourite of mine—Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs—trading on Dun &amp;</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">Bradstreet as a full-profit organisation. Now you can see there’s lots of information missing</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">there but they’re definitely registered and commercial piracy is alive and well.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">Oh and here’s Experian, another favourite of mine. Both Experian and Equifax, gathering</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">data and selling it to banks for profit. What authority do these companies have to take that</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">information from you when they have a county court judgement against them?</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">What about our local councils, surely they’re government owned, they can’t be private</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">businesses? Well at least we know the courts couldn’t possibly be private businesses and</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">making money on the international mar—oh&#8230; well, that can’t be good&#8230;. Nelson County</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">Court? Operating as a full-profit business on the international markets?</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">Oh, and here’s one of the daddies of them all, The Ministry of Justice, trading as Asylum</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">Immigration Tribunal, Magistrates Courts, the Public Trustee Office—and here’s what’s very</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">interesting—are there any significant legal proceedings events against this business? A</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">county court judgement was registered against this business on the 8th of May 2008.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">Now I ask you, as a man on the land would you do business with a corporation that has a</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">black mark against its name like that? It just goes to show you that the story about the judges</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">and courts being immune is absolute nonsense. Total hooey.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">These are private entities and they are just as susceptible to a commercial lien as any other</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">corporation would be. We’re talking about profit here. There’s money involved, which makes</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">it a whole new ballgame. Changes the motivation for giving out tickets. Changes the</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">motivation for making arrests. And it changes the rules entirely, which is why I am revealing</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">this information to the people who wish to find it.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">Whenever there are criminal charges, criminal charges always come by statute. Every time</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">the legislature passes a criminal ordinance or statute, the purpose of passing it is to raise</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">revenue for the government. Now the revenue that they’re raising is not the fines that the</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">courts will collect, no. The fines and the courts are sort of like taxes. Taxes don’t run the</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">government and the government doesn’t run off the fines, either.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">Who do the taxes and the fines go to? The investors. So who the hell are the investors?</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">Whoever it was that bid and paid the government for the right to collect and use all the fines</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">and taxes, based on the violation of the statute.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">Well then how does the government operate? They pass a statute that says you should not</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">speed, and then, when they pass that statute they’ve got a bunch of number crunchers in the</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">background saying, “Well if we put the speed limit at 30 in the towns, and say, 60 in the</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">country and 70 on the motorways, how many miscreants do you think we might have every</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">year, and how much money or revenue is that going to generate? Well, we think it might</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">generate about 3 billion a year or 5 billion a year&#8230;” or whatever it is.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">And so they pass this statute and the government says, “Okay, we’ve got this statute, how</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">many of you guys would like to give us a quotation, what would you purchase the income</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">stream of this statute for? How much would you pay us to collect the revenue from these</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">statutes and hand that money over to you as a return on your investment?”</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">These banks bid up and and they say, ‘Well, we’ll give you 5 or 6 billion,’ and they pay the</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">government up front , that’s what runs the government.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">So let me make that perfectly clear. What is collected from the court fines is the revenue</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">which pays back the interest on the principle to the private banking investors who</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">bankrolled the government up front.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">And which entity is creating the statutes? Oh, look, The House of Commons trading as The</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">Members of Parliament on Dun &amp; Bradstreet. Starting to see the big picture now, are we?</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">So as soon as you violate a statute and a traffic ticket goes out, the traffic ticket is the</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">equivalent of a criminal complaint, which is a negotiable instrument, or a money order.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">When a ticket is written and ends up with a clerk of the court, the clerk bundles these up and</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">they get shipped around, appraised, money is put into the accounts of the local courts—</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">wherever it may be—and securities go out in the background and somebody has purchased</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">the right to the revenue stream.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">“Yeah, that’s all very well,” I hear you say, “but what does it actually mean?”</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">Well, it means they’re all private corporate entities. All of them. The courts, the police, the</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">Houses of Parliament, the councils, all of it, all corporations. And corporations have</div>

<p>TheAntiTerrorist &amp; Velluminous Press would like to take this opportunity to point out that in theselitigious times it&#8217;s easy to lose sight of the fact that we—as a community of kindred souls—oncevalued common sense. So cast back in your memory to that long-forgotten concept and embrace thefact that the TheAntiTerrorist &amp; Velluminous Press stand above all for freedom and personalresponsibility. Simply stated, how you apply this information in your own life has nothing to do withus. These transcripts are for education and entertainment purposes only.TheAntiTerrorist on Corporate Revenue CollectionBroadcast on 13 October 2008Hello friends, I am TheAntiTerrorist. Thank you once again for all your messages of support, your emails and your questions. I have been learning and implementing and preparing myfamily for what is to come. As you can see we’ve been talking about this for a year now andit’s coming into play; the food crisis, the theatre that is the financial crisis, I hope you haveall been storing dried food and studying feverishly. This particular broadcast will leave you in no doubt as to who is running the show here. Orat least who’s benefitting from running the show. Now if all you good police officers who have been contacting me over the last year are stillin any doubt whether you have been reduced to mere revenue collection agents for privatecorporations, this episode will clear that up for you, too.[begin email excerpt graphics]I get a lot of emails from disillusioned police officers. They’re beginning to see through theveil. As you can see here there are certain quotes from emails I have received from certainofficers, and if you are the officers themselves watching this video, you will recognise yourown writings. Of course, I’ve not included your names, but I show these emails to prove toothers that there are good cops out there—there are good police officers out there who arecompletely and utterly disillusioned about the job, and how the job has changed. I want tomake it clear I am not anti-police—we need the police because unfortunately there arepeople out there who do not have the rest of society’s best interests at heart. There areburglars out there, there are thieves and rapists and they need to be dealt with. We need menand women out there selflessly protecting the public. You may well be out there dealing with us in the real world, dealing with the bad guys, trying to make a difference, but the bottom line is, you are there to generate revenue for afull-profit organisation[end email excerpt graphics][Begin Dun &amp; Bradstreet graphics]So how can I confidently assert that police officers are employees of private corporationsdoing business on the international markets? Well, to find that information I would go tosomewhere like Dun &amp; Bradstreet.Dun &amp; Bradstreet touts itself as“The worlds leading source of commercial information and insight on businesses, enablingcompanies to decide with confidence for 167 years. Dun &amp; Bradstreet’s global commercialdatabase contains more than 130 million business records, providing our customers withquality business information. This quality information is the foundation of our globalsolutions that customers rely on to make critical business decisions&#8230;”Allo, allo, allo, what’s going on ‘ere then? City of London Police, trading as City of LondonPolice. What is the overall condition of this business? Well above average. There will be a report like this for every police force in the western world, and you’ll find iton Dun &amp; Bradstreet if you look hard enough. In some cases it will cost you an arm and a legto get these reports but they’re well worth having. And in some cases there will beinformation missing with regards to profits, or directors, but here you can see the directors/proprietors of City of London Police are Bernard Hartie (sp?) and William Taylor. They’reexecutives. Of a company. Making money. Doing business on the international markets. And if any of you were in any doubt as to The Bank of England’s status, you can see she’strading as The Old Lady of Threadneedle Street. When did this business start? 1694.And here is a favourite of mine—Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs—trading on Dun &amp;Bradstreet as a full-profit organisation. Now you can see there’s lots of information missingthere but they’re definitely registered and commercial piracy is alive and well.Oh and here’s Experian, another favourite of mine. Both Experian and Equifax, gatheringdata and selling it to banks for profit. What authority do these companies have to take thatinformation from you when they have a county court judgement against them? What about our local councils, surely they’re government owned, they can’t be privatebusinesses? Well at least we know the courts couldn’t possibly be private businesses andmaking money on the international mar—oh&#8230; well, that can’t be good&#8230;. Nelson CountyCourt? Operating as a full-profit business on the international markets?Oh, and here’s one of the daddies of them all, The Ministry of Justice, trading as AsylumImmigration Tribunal, Magistrates Courts, the Public Trustee Office—and here’s what’s veryinteresting—are there any significant legal proceedings events against this business? Acounty court judgement was registered against this business on the 8th of May 2008.Now I ask you, as a man on the land would you do business with a corporation that has ablack mark against its name like that? It just goes to show you that the story about the judgesand courts being immune is absolute nonsense. Total hooey. These are private entities and they are just as susceptible to a commercial lien as any othercorporation would be. We’re talking about profit here. There’s money involved, which makesit a whole new ballgame. Changes the motivation for giving out tickets. Changes themotivation for making arrests. And it changes the rules entirely, which is why I am revealingthis information to the people who wish to find it.Whenever there are criminal charges, criminal charges always come by statute. Every timethe legislature passes a criminal ordinance or statute, the purpose of passing it is to raiserevenue for the government. Now the revenue that they’re raising is not the fines that thecourts will collect, no. The fines and the courts are sort of like taxes. Taxes don’t run thegovernment and the government doesn’t run off the fines, either.Who do the taxes and the fines go to? The investors. So who the hell are the investors?Whoever it was that bid and paid the government for the right to collect and use all the finesand taxes, based on the violation of the statute.Well then how does the government operate? They pass a statute that says you should notspeed, and then, when they pass that statute they’ve got a bunch of number crunchers in thebackground saying, “Well if we put the speed limit at 30 in the towns, and say, 60 in thecountry and 70 on the motorways, how many miscreants do you think we might have everyyear, and how much money or revenue is that going to generate? Well, we think it mightgenerate about 3 billion a year or 5 billion a year&#8230;” or whatever it is.And so they pass this statute and the government says, “Okay, we’ve got this statute, howmany of you guys would like to give us a quotation, what would you purchase the incomestream of this statute for? How much would you pay us to collect the revenue from thesestatutes and hand that money over to you as a return on your investment?”These banks bid up and and they say, ‘Well, we’ll give you 5 or 6 billion,’ and they pay thegovernment up front , that’s what runs the government. So let me make that perfectly clear. What is collected from the court fines is the revenuewhich pays back the interest on the principle to the private banking investors whobankrolled the government up front. And which entity is creating the statutes? Oh, look, The House of Commons trading as TheMembers of Parliament on Dun &amp; Bradstreet. Starting to see the big picture now, are we?So as soon as you violate a statute and a traffic ticket goes out, the traffic ticket is theequivalent of a criminal complaint, which is a negotiable instrument, or a money order. When a ticket is written and ends up with a clerk of the court, the clerk bundles these up andthey get shipped around, appraised, money is put into the accounts of the local courts—wherever it may be—and securities go out in the background and somebody has purchasedthe right to the revenue stream.“Yeah, that’s all very well,” I hear you say, “but what does it actually mean?”Well, it means they’re all private corporate entities. All of them. The courts, the police, theHouses of Parliament, the councils, all of it, all corporations. And corporations haveshareholders who expect a dividend. They are the motivation for the creation of statutes thatgenerate fines as revenue. It also means that where statutory legislation is concerned, ifyou’re standing in front of a judge or a police officer, you’re dealing with an employee of aprivate corporation. You wouldn’t let a McDonald’s employee search you bag, would you?[Pinhead]“You are nicked, my son, you are going down. Now, would you like fries with that?”[Fathead]“You are under arrest, buddy.”There’s no difference whatsoever. The only authority they have is what you grant them, voluntarily or out of pure ignorance. It’s your call.Yes, you could say they are just doing business, but it is personal.[disclaimer: Not to be taken as legal advice &amp;c.]Everything I’ve told you is provable and you can look it up for yourself. <p>Determined to find the law that requires American citizens to pay income tax, producer Aaron Russo (&#8220;The Rose,&#8221; &#8220;Trading Places&#8221;) set out on a journey to find the evidence. This film which is neither left, nor right-wing is a startling examination of government. It exposes the systematic erosion of civil liberties in America since 1913 when the Federal Reserve system was fraudulently created. Through interviews with U.S. Congressmen, a former IRS Commissioner, former IRS and FBI agents and tax attorneys and authors, Russo connects the dots between money creation, federal income tax, and the national identity card which becomes law in May 2008. <p><span id="long-desc" style="display: inline;">Very few people know anything about what really goes on behind the scene when it come to U.S. foreign policy and the corporate interests that drive it all. Our government is controlled by powerful corporate interests that have literally hijacked the powers of government and our military to advance their own selfish agendas. This interview should totally blow your mind. John Perkins was one of the men working behind the scenes to expand a global empire primarily through economic blackmail where they seduced third world leaders into taking out enormous loans that were impossible to repay so we could then U.S. corporations could swoop in and acquire control of their natural resources. If you&#8217;d like to end the reign of corporate colonialism and rid our government of their influence, please join the revolution at <a href="http://www.KickThemAllOut.com" target="_blank">The Kick Them All Out Project</a></span></p>
<p>&#8220;Covertly recruited by the United States National Security Agency and on the payroll of an international consulting firm, he traveled the world—to Indonesia, Panama, Ecuador, Colombia, Saudi Arabia, Iran and other strategically important countries&#8230;Perkins reveals the hidden mechanics of imperial control behind some of the most dramatic events in recent history, such as the fall of the Shah of Iran, the death of Panamanian president Omar Torrijos, and the U.S. invasions of Panama and Iraq.&#8221;<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confessions_of_an_Economic_Hit_Man#cite_note-Finews-0"></a></p>
<p>According to his book, Perkins&#8217; function was to convince the political and financial leadership of underdeveloped countries to accept enormous development loans from institutions like the <a title="World Bank" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Bank" target="_blank">World Bank</a> and <a title="USAID" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USAID" target="_blank">USAID</a>. Saddled with huge debts they could not hope to pay, these countries were forced to acquiesce to political pressure from the United States on a variety of issues. Perkins argues in his book that developing nations were effectively neutralized politically, had their wealth gaps driven wider and economies crippled in the long run. In this capacity Perkins recounts his meetings with some prominent individuals, including <a title="Graham Greene" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graham_Greene" target="_blank">Graham Greene</a> and <a title="Omar Torrijos" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omar_Torrijos" target="_blank">Omar Torrijos</a>. Perkins describes the role of an EHM as follows:</p>
<blockquote><p><span style="color: #888888;">Economic hit men (EHMs) are highly paid professionals who cheat countries around the globe out of trillions of dollars. They funnel money from the <a title="World Bank" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Bank" target="_blank">World Bank</a>, the <a title="U.S. Agency for International Development" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Agency_for_International_Development" target="_blank">U.S. Agency for International Development</a> (USAID), and other foreign &#8220;aid&#8221; organizations into the coffers of huge corporations and the pockets of a few wealthy families who control the planet&#8217;s natural resources. Their tools included fraudulent financial reports, rigged elections, payoffs, extortion, sex, and murder. They play a game as old as empire, but one that has taken on new and terrifying dimensions during this time of globalization.</span></p></blockquote>
<p>The epilogue to the 2006 edition provides a rebuttal to the current move by the <a title="G8" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G8" target="_blank">G8</a> nations to forgive Third World debt. Perkins charges that the proposed conditions for this debt forgiveness require countries to sell their health, education, electric, water and other public services to corporations. Those countries would also have to discontinue subsidies and trade restrictions that support local business, but accept the continued subsidization of certain G8 businesses by the US and other G8 countries, and the erection of trade barriers on imports that threaten G8 industries.</p>
<p>In the book, Perkins repeatedly denies the existence of a &#8220;conspiracy.&#8221; Instead, Perkins carefully discusses the role of <a title="Corporatocracy" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corporatocracy" target="_blank">corporatocracy</a>.</p>

<td style="padding: 4px 10px;" valign="top"><span style="color: #808080;">&#8220;I was initially recruited while I was in business school back in the late sixties by the National Security Agency, the nation’s largest and least understood spy organization; but ultimately I worked for private corporations. The first real economic hit man was back in the early 1950’s, Kermit Roosevelt, the grandson of Teddy, who overthrew the government of Iran, a democratically elected government, Mossadegh’s government who was Time‘s magazine person of the year; and he was so successful at doing this without any bloodshed—well, there was a little bloodshed, but no military intervention, just spending millions of dollars and replaced Mossadegh with the Shah of Iran. At that point, we understood that this idea of economic hit man was an extremely good one. We didn’t have to worry about the threat of war with Russia when we did it this way. The problem with that was that Roosevelt was a C.I.A. agent. He was a government employee. Had he been caught, we would have been in a lot of trouble. It would have been very embarrassing. So, at that point, the decision was made to use organizations like the C.I.A. and the N.S.A. to recruit potential economic hit men like me and then send us to work for private consulting companies, engineering firms, construction companies, so that if we were caught, there would be no connection with the government.<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confessions_of_an_Economic_Hit_Man#cite_note-PerkinsInt-1" target="_blank">[2]</a> &#8211; Nov 4 &#8217;04 interview</span></td>

<p>Perkins began writing <em>Confessions of an Economic Hit Man</em> in the 1980s. &#8220;Threats or bribes always convinced me to stop&#8221; he says in the book.</p>

<p>This interview is done by Ron Eggleton at the July 2006 Vets for Peace national conference at the University of Washington in Seattle. Perkins discusses his first hand experience with how large corporations and the U.S. use bribery, assassination, and the military to thwart democratic governments that are not open to exploitation of that nation&#8217;s peoples and resources by U.S. multinational corporations. This interview is 30 minutes. &#8211; <a href="http://www.sounddemocracy.org/" target="_blank">Alliance for Democracy </a></p>
